In An Era of OnlyFans Bans, Bonnie Blue is Leading The Opposition

While some American political hopefuls begin to pick fights with OnlyFans creators here in the states, it’s not much easier for creators abroad, either. Many countries (including some rather populous ones) have been doing their best to make things difficult for OnlyFans and OnlyFans creators. In this piece, we’ll take a closer look as to why this is and how creators are fighting back.

In about sixteen countries worldwide, OnlyFans is either completely banned or has had aspects of the website disabled by government firewalls. This list includes India, China and Russia (the first, second and ninth largest countries by population, respectively). With the exception of China, where OnlyFans is completely blocked, India and Russia have done what most other countries have done and disabled a key part of the platform. In Russia, due to banking regulations, OnlyFans may not be blocked, but paying for content in the largest country by land mass is not allowed. In India, only subscribers can access OnlyFans. Creating adult content in India is illegal. This caveat is relatively common, especially in nations like Indonesia, where popular creator Bonnie Blue was recently deported.

While Bonnie Blue (whose real name is Tia Billinger) was technically deported for earning money through work while on a tourist visa, in reality, Indonesia wasn’t happy that the blonde creator was making content in the country. Making adult content, like in India, is illegal in Indonesia. This is largely due to Indonesia’s cultural and religious makeup. Pornography is basically outlawed in Islam while at the very least frowned upon under the Hindu religion. Since Indonesia has a Muslim / Hindu majority in the country, it’s easy to understand their disdain for this kind of content.

The evidence against Blue was circumstantial at best, but it was enough to get her sent out of the country. Indonesian officials reported that a total of thirty individuals - sixteen foreigners and fourteen Indonesian nationals - were questioned after having been at a local studio. They claimed to be taking part in an “entertainment-themed reality show” and that “no indecent material was produced.” Investigators examined videos made in a hotel yet “found no elements of pornography or any unlawful distribution.” The reason they chose to deport Blue was for a traffic violation.

Blue has never been one to shy away from the spotlight and her actions post-deportation have shown that she wants the last laugh. Months ago, in the United Kingdom, Blue performed a sexual act outside the Indonesian embassy and was charged with “outraging public decency” by British officials. After this, while filming a scene, she told her male partners to climax on her deportation papers and then proceeded to put those papers inside of her. After having sex with a mind-boggling 400 men in one day, Blue became pregnant. She plans to have a baby shower with, you guessed it, more sex.

Bonnie Blue might be one of OnlyFans’ more recognizable creators, but in Russia, leader Vladimir Putin is going after creators with less publicity stunts to their name. Anastasia Ovsyannikova, a 24 year-old OnlyFans star who goes by Nastya Kholod, was placed under house arrest after being arrested on suspicion of “production and circulation of pornographic materials”, a crime in Russia. Her counterparts, Diana Shurygina and German adult producer Ludwig Krichker were also placed on house arrest after having their residences searched and their personal property seized. After invading Ukraine in 2022, this crackdown on adult material is seen by experts as an effort to make the country’s values more uniformly traditional, at the expense of young creators just trying to make a living.

Despite being banned in some of the world’s largest markets, OnlyFans continues to grow more popular and profitable for those allowed to use it. Stars like Sophie Rain have made over $100 million on the platform, while many athletes and actors have found OnlyFans to be more lucrative than their own career paths. It’s clear that creators like Bonnie Blue who find attention-grabbing ways to (legally) poke fun at their persecutors are winning the fight against those who want to see OnlyFans done away with.
