How OnlyFans Saved A Life

Mikomi Hokina was living her best life, making tons of money as a respected cosplayer and performer on OnlyFans and having a great time. All of a sudden, her co-star in an OnlyFans video touched her breast and felt a lump. 

At that moment, Hokina (whose real name is Aurore Tila) couldn’t believe it. She remembers telling her co-star, “My God, what do you mean?” 

As it turned out, breast cancer was something Tila was genetically predisposed to get. “I tested for it when my mom passed away from cancer,” the Belgian OnlyFans creator said, adding she knew she was at higher risk, but didn’t feel the urge to test for it. As soon as her mom passed away, that changed. She got tested. The doctors told her she had breast cancer, right before she was to depart for Thailand. 

“Two hours before my flight, I got the phone call that my test results were positive for cancer,” remembered Tila. This news immediately made her doubt if she should even board her flight, or even try a two week long trip. But, her doctors assured her that two weeks away wouldn’t significantly worsen her prognosis. 

She used her time in Thailand to make more fun content for OnlyFans, while she simultaneously mentally prepared to deliver the awful news to her friends and family members. 

Hearing a cancer diagnosis wasn’t uncharted territory for Tila’s family. Tila lost her mom to the same cancer she had just been diagnosed with. Unfortunately, Tila herself carried a gene called BRCA1, which made her much more susceptible to breast cancer. 

As difficult as it was to tell her loved ones about her diagnosis, Tila says the hardest part for her was shaving her hair off. Initially, she had only planned to trim her hair short, but when she awoke the next day, there was another hefty chunk of hair missing. “ I was like, ‘OK, we’re just fully shaving, I guess’” Tila recalled. A common side effect of chemotherapy - the most widely-used cancer treatment - hair loss can be devastating to a patient’s self esteem and can greatly impact overall morale. Especially the morale of someone who has made a living off of their personal appearance. “My hair is a very important part of me,” said Tila. 

Gradually, Aurore Tila got some confidence back and fell back in love with her passion: cosplay. After all, the over 600,000 likes on her page must mean she’s pretty good, right? At the time of her diagnosis, though, Tila’s love for cosplay hadn’t spilled over onto her OnlyFans account just yet. Her thick hair was a bit too unwieldy for even the most convincing of wigs. “I could never fit that in a bald cap and look great - there was no way”, Tila said of her hair. But, after losing her hair to chemo, she replicated the look of a very popular anime character, Saitama, from the Japanese manga series One-Punch Man. 

After plenty of cosplay photos and darkly humorous pranks (Tila once used her shaved hair as a nest for Easter eggs), Tila was declared cancer-free. Now, she has continued to grow her OnlyFans account while including her favorite cosplay content. While she admits that her other content might make her more money, cosplay is her passion, and her work connects with other users. “I keep my fans happy and I’ve transformed my hobby into my job,” said Tila. Even though she’s absolutely crushing it on OnlyFans & Instagram (with her millions of followers), Tila hopes to one day become a costume supplier / designer for the movie industry.
