If you’ve ever watched a TV show or a movie, seen a gorgeous actor and wished she had an OnlyFans, it appears some of these movie stars are beginning to sign up to show everyone a little extra.

Maitland Ward, a busty redhead known for her appearances on the 90’s soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful and Boy Meets World retired from acting in 2007, poked around sharing lewds and nudes on Snapchat and Instagram in mid-2013 and started performing in adult films in 2019. Adult performer and director Kayden Kross first introduced her to the idea of making adult movies and Ward is now making more money than she ever did as an actress, thanks in part to OnlyFans.

“On Boy Meets World I think I made $20,000 or $25,000 an episode,” Ward recalls, telling US Weekly she had a chronic fear she would be fired. “You don’t have all the guarantees out there,” she said,” In porn or OnlyFans, I can get six figures a month.” OnlyFans gives Maitland Ward’s subscribers a way to get to know her personally, a bonus that she says isn’t prioritized in Hollywood. “Back then, I think [Hollywood] looked at these young actors as like property coming in,” she claims Hollywood “wanted to mold and form these young actors into what they wanted them to be, what they needed them to be for the company and for the audience to what they felt would identify with.”

Ward says she was treated better by her former colleagues after dropping out of acting to pursue creating OnlyFans and adult content full time. She has even turned this experience into an autobiography called “Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me from Hollywood”.

Denise Richards, of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame, started up her OnlyFans account in 2022 around the time her daughter Sami Sheen began her page. Richards says she didn’t know much about OnlyFans at the time, but her daughter received “a lot of backlash” for starting a page. Now that she’s on the site, Richards says,” I really think [OnlyFans] took the best [from] every platform of social media and put it into one site. You own your content. The other sites [can] sell your content.”

OnlyFans offers these stars ownership of their content, better pay and better working conditions. Estelle Keeber, a Public Relations strategist, says OnlyFans’ structure offers Hollywood stars the agency that had been missing for most of their careers. “[OnlyFans] is fundamentally a creator platform, it gives users direct access to audience without needing permission from an industry middleman.” With streaming becoming increasingly popular, the wealth gap has widened between influencers, internet stars and more traditional television actresses. OnlyFans has allowed these actresses to get their piece of the profit and then some.

As the Hollywood realm continues to evolve, OnlyFans has proven itself an incredibly reliable source of income for actors that may not be in demand, but still have devoted fanbases. Many actresses keep OnlyFans accounts to get more personal with fans, not necessarily to share full-on NSFW content. Actors and actresses who have decided to get on OnlyFans make a good chunk of cash whether or not they share explicit content. Some of their fans seek a more personal relationship and will pay good money, even if they don’t receive sexually enticing content in return.

OnlyFans (worth over $3.15 billion) is growing daily and offers the same financial windfalls for stars and girl-next-door types alike. Finding an audience has never been easier, and without any Hollywood executives pulling the strings, creators and those who wish to be in the public eye can stack the cash while keeping more profit than they could ever make on a Hollywood set.
